appropriate, legislative positions favorable to creating a positive
business climate.

Chamber positions to elected
officials, members and the media.
• Conduct candidate surveys when appropriate and
sponsor/co-sponsor candidate forums when possible.
• Identify issues, create work groups and formulate a proposal for a
Chamber position that will be reviewed
by the committee and the Chamber
Board.
• Survey our membership on important community issues that arise, review
the results and forward
recommended action on to the Chamber Board.
• Hold receptions with local elected officials to open the lines of
communication between the Chamber and

La Crosse Area Business Leaders High
On Rail
Four students in Professor Keith Sherony’s BUS 230 class, Business Research
Methods, at UW-La Crosse recently completed a research
study on behalf of the Empire Builder High Speed Rail Coalition to
assess the local business community’s awareness and interest in high
speed rail.
Dave Clements, Executive Director of the LACVB and member of the Empire Builder
Coalition said, “The survey confirms two things, that
more frequent train service now under the current 79 mph arrangement and higher
speed train service coming in a few years would
receive strong support from the La Crosse Area business community. The
respondents even indicated a willingness to pay more than the current
fares, which should mean something to Amtrak.”
The Empire Builder High Speed Rail Coalition is distributing the results
of the survey to state and federal officials and
Amtrak officials. The States of Wisconsin and Minnesota would need to offer
financial support to add an additional train any time
soon.
On a related topic the choice of a preferred high speed train route will be the
subject of studies undertaken by the DOT’s in
Wisconsin and Minnesota over the coming year and are expected to be complete by
the end of 2011.
