Do I Get Involved?

Organized through
the Intercultural Network committee, this program holds diversity training
sessions throughout the year.
There are seminars and breakfasts held on various topics.
The La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce
Business Diversity Statement is a program that incorporates eight (8) value statements and
actions into a business's day-to-day activities. It is our belief that these
statements and actions will position your business as a player in a multicultural business
environment.
Our Challenge: As the La
Crosse area becomes increasingly diverse, we can try to ignore the changes in our
community or we can recognize and adapt to the changes. We each choose whether
change will represent opportunities or dilemma. Join with us in celebrating the
opportunities.
6% of the County population are people of diverse
cultures and physical abilities - over 6,000 people.
9% of the City population are people of diverse
cultures and physical abilities - over 4,600 people.
60-65% of the communities of diverse cultures and
physical abilities are age 18 and under.
20% of the student body of the La Crosse School
District are students of diverse cultures and physical abilities.
840-860 families in La Crosse County are families
of diverse cultures and physical abilities.
Diversity
Statements and Actions
As a La Crosse Area business that values
the diversity of our citizens, we will....
1. Educate our entire organization to gain
understanding and appreciation of culturally diverse groups in our area.
2. Develop and implement culturally
sensitive tools to help us evaluate our customer service practices to assure fairness.
3. Ensure that our hiring practices
enhance cultural diversity within our organization, recognizing that a diverse workforce
supports an expanded diverse customer base.
4. Ensure that all employees are treated
fairly regarding opportunities for individual development, promotions, benefits,
assignments and
responsibilities, evaluations, and wages.
5. Ensure that our marketing and
advertising efforts will be sensitive to, and inclusive of, diverse cultures.
6. Seek opportunities to collaborate with
culturally diverse area businesses.
7. Seek opportunities to support
culturally diverse area programs, events, and activities.
8. Promote unity, respect, and human
dignity, and oppose discrimination in any form within our business and our
community.
